Geigy enclosure for great apes

Experience of what needs to be preserved

The renovation and new construction of the great ape enclosure at the Basel Zoo made it possible to create a world of experience for the animals that reflects the current state of knowledge. The interior installations provide a complex habitat. This allows the great apes to experience the full range of their natural behavioural repertoire. The net spaces of the outdoor facilities also offer a lot of variety. The whole facility was designed in such a way that the animals are in the focus of attention for visitors while also providing enough possibilities for retreat.
